Submitted by TimBruce on Tue, 2010-04-06 22:09
You may also want to read an introduction from our National Commander (available at http://www.gocivilairpatrol.com/html/commander.htm). While you’re there, you may also want to check out the Civil Air Patrol “Great Start” page, which has a lot of additional documents. This page is at: http://www.capmembers.com/cap_university/professional_development/great_start/index.cfm
We also have a Prospective Member Document (from the National website) hosted here at: http://www.or034.org/forms/Prospective_Members.pdf
Then depending on your age, you’ll want to look at the Cadet Program below (for youth under the age of 18)or the Senior Program (for adults over the age of 18).
Cadet Program There is a Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ) guide at http://www.gocivilairpatrol.com/html/teensFAQ.htm. We recommend you read this and discuss this with your parents. This will help explain some of the expectations of cadets in the Civil Air Patrol program. Our cadet oath (available below), recited at the beginning of the meeting explains some additional expectations as well. Others also include:
If you’re interested in the Cadet program, joining is fairly simple.
Attend a meeting so you can be introduced to our Cadet Commander and the Deputy Commander for Cadets. Not only do you get to meet two people who will shape your time in the program, it gives you an opportunity to see how our Cadet Commander runs the meetings and gives you an introduction to a typical meeting night at our unit.
Fill out an application (CAP Form 15) (you can download this from http://www.or034.org/forms/capf015.pdf to be signed by either the Deputy Commander for Cadets (1st Lt Clarey) or our Squadron Commander (Lt Col Anderson).
Download and fill in the Emergency Contact Card (CAP Form 60). (You can download the form from http://www.or034.org/forms/capf60.dot )
Mail the completed forms, along with a check for $30.00 (the annual fee through September 30, 2010) to National Headquarters.
The mailing address is: NHQ CAP/LMMR 105 South Hansell Street Maxwell AFB AL 36112-6332.
Your application should be approved within a few business days you will receive your membership card in the mail, along with a Welcome Packet.
Cadet Oath "I pledge that I will serve faithfully in the Civil Air Patrol cadet program, and that I will attend meetings regularly, participate actively in unit activities, obey my officers, wear my uniform properly, and advance my education and training rapidly to prepare myself to be of service to my community, state, and nation."
Senior Program If you’re an adult over the age of 18, we hope you’ve attended a few meetings with our unit so you can check us out. If you haven’t yet, now is a good time to visit our unit and attend a meeting. (see http://www.or034.org/location), You may even want to attend the meeting of some other local units so you can make an informed decision before joining our program.
The first thing we would like to recommend is that you download and read our Senior Member Fast Start Handbook (essentially, a Getting Started pamphlet (http://www.capmembers.com/media/cms/u_081503135833.pdf) ). And there is additional information in the Senior Member Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ) webpage http://www.gocivilairpatrol.com/html/adultsFAQ.htm.
If you haven’t attended a meeting, please do so you can meet our Squadron Commander and some of the other people you’ll be working with for Emergency Service or in helping to manage the Squadron/Cadet program.
Download the application (CAP Form 12) and complete it. (You can download the form from http://www.or034.org/forms/capf012.doc)
Download the Emergency Contact Card (CAP Form 60) and complete it. (You can download the form from http://www.or034.org/forms/capf60.dot )
Bring the completed application to the Squadron meeting and have it signed by the Squadron Commander (Lt Col Anderson) or the Deputy Commander for Seniors.
Get your fingerprints taken and submitted on a fingerprint card. We recommend the Washington County Sheriff’s Office because they can do an Inkless fingerprint card. However, any other Sheriff’s office or Police Department can be used.
Mail the completed forms and the necessary fees to National Headquarters. The fees through September 30, 2010 are $79.00 per year.
The address for mailing the application is: NHQ CAP/LMMR 105 South Hansell Street Maxwell AFB AL 36112-6332.
Your application will be reviewed by National Headquarters , and a background check will be performed by the FBI. After that is completed, National Headquarters will mail out a membership card, followed shortly by a Welcome Packet.
